Elastic elements exhibit two fundamental effects during operation: elastic effect and inelastic effect. The elastic effect refers to the property of an elastic element whose deformation is solely due to the influence of load; its specific parameters are stiffness and sensitivity, reflecting the load and deformation.

The inelastic effect, on the other hand, refers to the property of an elastic element whose deformation is affected by other factors, such as time, temperature, and material properties. Examples include elastic hysteresis, elastic aftereffect, and relaxation. Temperature changes can alter the elastic modulus and geometric dimensions of the elastic element.
